Symposium Roundtables: Natural Hazards: the importance of physical & numerical modelling

Yesterday, a one-day symposium was held in Rwanda to strengthen early warning systems through physical and numerical modelling. The event focused on landslides, floods, and Lake Kivu instability, highlighting the role of physics-based forecasting in improving decision-making. Organized by the East African Institute for Fundamental Research and UNESCO IGCP, in partnership with NCST (WALL), the French Embassy, and IRD, the hybrid symposium brought together Rwandan institutions, methane operators, and international experts to foster collaboration between scientists and policymakers.
